Loot is a strategy card game produced in India by Yes Papa Games. Originally published in 1992, it has only started making an appearance in this country in the recent years.

The main aim of the game is to plunder the merchant ships and be the richest pirate on the seas.

Game Specification:

Age Group: 10+

No. of Players: 2-4

Game Duration: 20 Minutes

Skills to learn: Strategy, Hand Management, Probability Intuition

The Box and its Cards:

The box of the game is a sturdy cardboard box which keeps the cards protected by keeping them from friction. The graphics on the box make the game more menacing than it is but attracts the players to try this game at least once.

The game components are of four types: Merchant Ships, Pirate Ships, The Pirates and the Admiral. The cards are made from harder paper. They are not as easily foldable or torn as most card games’ cards tend to be. The cards have a beautiful graphic on its back. Their is a map type design on the cards along with nautical symbols which is very attractive.

How to Play Loot:

Start each turn by looking around the playing area to see whether you have captured any of the merchant ships in play.

Then, take ONE of the following actions:
Play a merchant ship in front of you.
Play a pirate ship to attack a merchant ship or strengthen your attack on a merchant ship.
You can only have one colour pirate ship attacking a particular merchant ship.
Play a pirate captain to strengthen your attack on a merchant ship.
This is the sure way to take control of the pirate ships.
Play the admiral to defend your own merchant ship.
There is only one admiral in the entire stack. This is the last resort of defence for merchant ships.
Draw a card from the deck.

If you cannot take any other action, draw a card from the deck.

Review of Loot:

The game can be played very easily. It has simple rules which do not need a big template for explanation. The concept of pirates and merchants already excites the players so that enjoyment is guaranteed.

As the game has no additional components except the cards, it is very portable and can be easily included in your journey enjoyment, though it needs a proper table to be played.

The color of the pirate ships played by a player is different for every merchant ship, so it can be difficult to remember them all but it is solved by placing the pirate ships in a direction that shows the path from the attacker to the merchant ship.

The game ends very soon. A player has to make sure to score the most points and also ensure that his/her pirate ships are not wasted attacking for lower point if possible. Thus, the players have to judge the game as it is played.

You will not be satisfied with a single game. Loot is a great game to play if you are looking for some short leisure activity. Though it is a 2-4 player game, the game is better when played with at least 3 players.
